Media@McGill is presenting a second public event for Gil’s visit: ‘Broadband: a conversation with Gilberto Gil’, Mr. Gil will discuss his thoughts on some of the issues that arise when culture intersects with technology and politics. After giving a lecture at MIT, Brazil’s musician minister Gilberto Gil went to Silicon Valley to meet with a team of top executives of the computer world. Gil sat for hours with the likes of Jerry Yang, founder of Yahoo, Phillip Rosedale, creator of Second Life, and Joel Hyatt, Al Gore’s partner at Current TV. The famous Brazilian musician, politician and culture minster Gilberto Gil wants to resign from his culture minister position next year. A polyp was found on his vocal strings. Gilberto Gil, the man responsible for Brazil’s Ministry of Culture and one of the top-level Brazilian government officials is an example to be followed.
